Using your Extra Care Bucks at CVS

I would highly recommend the reading of the Post http://www.wix.com/thecouponcrazedmom/lifestyle/apps/blog/rolling-your-walgreens-register-rewards-rr first, so you can understand the idea first of "rolling" and "using" store specific rewards programs.

CVS is a little different than Walgreens.  Their ecb are not manufacturer coupons like Walgreens, and therefore does not require a "filler" item.  If you are starting out with no ecb, the same general idea is the  same.
  • CVS
  1. Make sure you scan your ecb card (the red card you must have to receive these specials) at the little red machine usually located in the front of the store as you walk in the door.  This gives you additional ecb's and coupons to use in the store according to what you purchase in the past on your card (s).  (check out CVS policy on how many ecb cards you are allowed per household)
  2. Start out with the lowest ECB, and work your way up to the most amount of ECB to maximize your oop (out of pocket) expense.  You will be doing multiple transactions when you are rolling your rewards or ecb.  **If there is one cashier, please let them know that you have multiple transactions combined with Store q's, mq's, and your store specific rewards programs.**
  3. You may use Store Q's and MQ's at CVS, you always want to scan your ECB card before you start any transaction.  CVS does NOT do overage.  I repeat they DO NOT do overage on items, so if your item is more than the q, then you will receive the face value of the ITEM discounted, not the full face value of the COUPON.
  4. Money Makers at both CVS and Walgreens are within the RR & the ECB.  Remember maximize your savings buy combing offers that each store has.  Check with your local stores to see if they price match as well with competitors.  Some do, some don't.
  5. You can also use BOGO coupons and stack an additional cents off coupon as well.  For instance, you have a q that says BOGO on hair spray.  The BOGO q is good for the FREE product, which allows you to stack ANOTHER cents off coupon for the original product being purchased.  I have not seen CVS allow TWO bogo q's on two products.  BUT you can use a store coupon on the original product as well as the cents off coupon for the original product purchased, therefore maximizing your oop expense.
  6. You always want to add the items at the end that you don't have coupons for so maximize your oop expense.
  7. I have had up to 20 transactions before, so I could roll the ecb from item to item.  As long as the cashier knows ahead of time, I have not had an issue.  They just call somebody to the front and concentrate on my purchases.  PLEASE be courteous and informative in case they are new, or just does not know their own coupon policy to the fullest extent.  KINDNESS gets you everywhere!  Here is a copy of CVS coupon policy.  http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvscontent/faq/couponpolicy.pdf  Again, print it out and put it in your binder as described in walgreens post.
